CCG Cycle Proficiency Training

Cycle Proficiency

Connswater Community Greenway arranged for Sustrans to visit two community centres in East Belfast to deliver National Standard Cycle Training to local children. The purpose of the training was to enable local children to cycle safely and to encourage them to get on their bikes with the aim of increasing usage of the Connswater Community Greenway once complete.

The training was split into two parts:

Level 1 is conducted in a traffic free area and ensures that children can ride their bikes with control, make the bicycle go where they want, look over their shoulders and signal, whilst still having control over the bike etc.

Level 2 builds on the skills of Level 1 and works with children to look at where to position yourself as a cyclist on the road, how to pass side roads, parked cars and how to make turns.

Training took place at Dee Street Community Centre on Wednesday 19th August and at Short Strand Community Centre on Thursday 20th August.

All participants over the two days were awarded certificates from Sustrans and were issued with high-visibility vests.
