Four in a row openings conclude with family fun day
Last week was a busy one in Connswater Community Greenway HQ as we opened four sections featuring a further 4kms of new cycle and pedestrian paths, two new play parks, two new multi-use games areas and two new bridges.
On Saturday 25th March there was a family fun day at Flora Street Walkway with a pupil from Elmgrove Primary School, Harrison McConnell and Michelle Wilson from Avoniel Leisure Centre who officially opened the play park. Paw Patrol were on hand for selfies and ice-cream ensured everyone stayed cool on what was the first sunny Saturday in a long time.
On Wednesday 29th we opened the link from Newtownards Road to Connswater Link with help from children from TLC Daycare and Gavin McLoughlin from Holywood Arches Business Association. After we got the all important photos it was over to the EastSide Visitor Centre for tea and scones.
On Friday 31st just as the rain stopped and sun came out to play we opened the section from Ladas Drive to Montgomery Road. Members from the British Legion and pupils from the Rugby Academy at Belfast Metropolitan College helped to open the link and joined us for tea and scones after while the High Sheriff, Alderman Tom Haire said a few words.
Saturday 1st April was the last of our Four in a Row series with another family fun day at Loop River play park. The Lord Mayor popped along as did Paw Patrol who were keen to try out the fantastic new facilities in the park.
Connswater Community Greenway would like to thank Belfast City Council for its commitment and dedication to the Greenway. Thanks also to Big Lottery Fund NI, Department for Infrastructure and Department for Communities for its continued support.
That just leaves one section to open and what will be the finale of Phase 2. Keep an eye on our social media for confirmation dates for end of April.
